DESPITE being another wet start to August Bank Holiday Monday this year’s Berkeley Show was a success bringing in people from far and wide.

With things brightening up just as the public began to arrive, the number of entries with high.

This year’s show was its 113th event and in that time it has grown to become one of the region’s biggest traditional agricultural shows.

Competitors from as far away as Derbyshire and across the South west took part in this year’s show.

With the clean-up operation following the show still underway, show chairman, John Bennett, said that they were looking forward to next year.

“I’d like to think things were better than last year,” he said. “Unfortunately it was a miserable morning but everyone got into the spirit of the show.

“All the competitors and stallholders were really enthusiastic and as the rain stopped the public started to come in.

With numbers still being added up organisers were unsure whether numbers were up on last year but Mr Bennett said that he “would like to hope it was better than last year”.

Traditional competitions, a vintage tractor display and a host of performers were amongst the entertainment options provided at this year’s show.

At the end of last year show organisers issued an appeal for support after the show was badly affected by a wash-out bank holiday.

Mr Bennett added: “We’ve had a lot of help throughout the year from the community who have supported through raising funds.

“This year we’ve been very careful with organisation to make sure that the show can remain a success.”
