ROLLS-ROYCE has issued probably the world’s smallest recall, affecting just one car – a car that hasn’t even been delivered yet.

Incorrectly labelled thorax airbags on a Ghost destined for the United States are the reason behind the bizarre one-car recall.

The strange turn of events has arisen in America itself, where the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) singled out a Ghost built in January 2014, but that had not yet reached its owner.

A letter from the NHTSA states: “Rolls-Royce BMW of North America is recalling one model-year 2015 Rolls-Royce Ghost manufactured on January 23, 2014.

“The affected vehicle has thorax air bags fitted to both front seats that may fail to meet the side impact performance requirements for the front seat occupants. As such, this vehicle may fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 214, ‘Side Impact Protection’.”

A Rolls-Royce dealer will update the airbags to new, correctly-labelled ones and arrange delivery for the buyer.

The Ghost, sometimes called the ‘Baby Rolls’, is powered by a 6.6-litre V12 engine with two turbochargers, stomping through 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds.
