VISITORS came to learn about the role played by people in Frampton-on-Severn during the Great War at a commemorative exhibition.

The exhibition at Frampton Cadbury Hall, organised by the Frampton Remembers WWI project, contained photos and information about the soldiers and civilians from the village during the conflict.

An under 13s football match and guided tours around WWI sites in the village were also be held over the commemorative Bank Holiday weekend.

Volunteers at Frampton Remembers WWI are researching how the conflict affected the village community and learning more about the men and women who served their country.

About 120 soldiers and nurses are featured in the project and many of their families still live in the village today.

Volunteers have examined how Cadbury Bros Ltd opened a factory in Frampton in 1916 which helped to produce morale-boosting chocolate for the soldiers in the trenches and German prisoners of war extracted gravel which was used to construct the dockyard at Chepstow.

The project is funded by a £24,500 from the Heritage Lottery Fund and local businesses.
