TELEVISION crews have been filming at Berkeley Castle for an upcoming series about the wives of Henry VIII.

Filming for the BBC programme Henry VIII’s Six Wives began at the castle at the end of last week.

Berkeley Castle is a popular choice for filming with shows such as Wolf Hall, The Other Boleyn Girl, Nostradamus and Robin of Sherwood having taken use of the historical setting.

The latest documentary is described as ‘an ambitious, ground-breaking approach to drama and history’.

It will feature historian Lucy Worsley ‘travelling back in time to the Tudor court to witness some of the most dramatic moments in the lives of Henry VIII’s six wives'.

A combination of drama, written by Chloe Moss, and contemporary historical comment by Lucy, Henry VIII’s Six Wives was announced by the BBC earlier this year.

The three-part series will see Lucy appear as a range of witnesses in the past and present, eavesdropping on royal events as the drama plays out.

It is being produced by Wall to Wall South for the BBC.

No date has been confirmed for its airing yet.
