BUILDING society manager Cheryl Andrew has raised more than £600 for breast cancer research by completing a gruelling marathon.

Cheryl, the manager of the Stroud branch of Coventry Building Society, took on the MoonWalk in London as part of a group of five on Saturday night.

She walked 26.2 miles and has raised more than £600 in donations so far for the event’s organiser, Walk the Walk, which funds research into battling breast cancer.

Cheryl, 48, who lives in Cam, said she chose to support the charity because people close to her had been affected by breast cancer.

“It was a tough night, full of emotion, personal stories, support and enthusiasm from other power walkers and volunteers,” she said.

“Many thanks to everyone who has supported me and to team Stroud who have supported with fundraising in the branch.”

Coventry agreed to match the amount Cheryl raises up to £250, and to help bring in even more cash for the charity, a colleague has donated 10 Harrods Christmas teddy bears worth £40 each for a raffle.

Tickets are £1 and available now at the Coventry in King Street, Stroud, and the raffle will take place in the branch on May 31.
