A SCHOOL in Dursley will honour the memory of 14-year-old Louis Eldridge with a talent show - while others across the county hold events and raise funds for the popular teenager.

Louis, of Berkeley, died on Saturday, May 21, after being involved in a crash while riding his bike in Wanswell the previous evening.

Headteacher at Rednock David Alexander told the Gazette the talent show would celebrate Louis’ life while raising funds for a memorial.

“Louis’ mum and dad have contacted me to request that we hold a talent show next term to raise funds and celebrate his life,” said Mr Alexander.

“The money which we will raise will all go to a plaque and a tree which has blue flowers - Ceanothus – which we will put on school grounds so that students and staff can see it and remember him.”

Louis’ mum told Mr Alexander her son would have “loved” a talent show, and chose the tree because of its blue flowers. Blue has been adopted as the colour of remembrance for Louis.

The event will be arranged following next week's half term break, allowing students the chance to process their loss.

Rednock had counsellors on hand to offer support to grieving students earlier in the week and observed a minute of silence on Monday which headteacher David Alexander said all students conducted “absolutely impeccably”.

Elsewhere, a disco will be held in Sharpness Village Hall to help raise funds for Louis’ family on Saturday, July 23, between 6 and 10pm. Children attending must be between 11 and 17 years of age. Tickets will be on sale shortly at a price of £3.

Louis was airlifted to Southmead Hospital after he was in collision with a car while riding his bicycle in Station Road, Wanswell, on the night of Friday, May 20.

The youngster remained in a critical condition until Saturday afternoon, when he died from his injuries.

Following Louis' death, scores of people donated to a fund to support his family and pay for a permanent memorial to him, with more than £1,500 raised in just days.
