OFFICERS investigating a non-stop collision in Lechlade have arrested a man in connection with the incident.

A 31-year-old man from Lechlade was arrested last night on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop/report an accident. He has been bailed until Friday 19 August, whilst police conduct further enquiries.

The arrest is in relation to an incident which happened on Sunday (19 June) morning on the A361, Burford Road, when a vehicle collided with a motorcyclist, 66-year-old Gerald Stockwell, and drove off from the scene without stopping.

PC Tim Griffiths, the investigating officer, said: “I would like to thank all of the members of the public who came forward with information after our appeal. Their information has proved vital and led to us making this arrest.”

Gerald Stockwell’s wife, Marie Stockwell, and his younger brother, Chris Stockwell, have released a statement on behalf of his family:

“We are devastated that somebody could do this to Gerald. The consequences could have been a lot worse, but his injuries are still serious and will take some time to heal. He is still undergoing treatment but we’re hoping he will make a full recovery.

“We’d like to take this opportunity to thank those members of the public who came to Gerald’s aid at the scene. We cannot be more grateful to everyone who has helped, including the ambulance and hospital staff, and police officers investigating.”
