MANY students from Katharine Lady Berkeley’s School in Wotton-under-Edge are celebrating after receiving their A-level results this morning.

The school saw 61 per cent of its students achieve A* - B grades and 85 per cent achieve A* - C.

Headteacher Andrew Harris said the results were “better than expected”, and that nearly all of them picked up the grades they need for where they want to go next.

“The results have been very good. They obviously did their AS levels last year and there are predictions – but the results have been better than expected,” said Mr Harris.

“You never stop being nervous; you never stop worrying about results and whether they’re going to be what was predicted, or whether there’ll be an upset in the marking of a certain subject.

“But from what we can tell no subjects have come out differently than we would have expected.

“These students now have a really good foundation to be really successful in whatever they choose to do.”

Ross Lawrence, of Hawkesbury Upton – who picked up two A*s and an A in physics, biology and French – got the results he needed to study French and linguistics at Queen’s College, Oxford University.

“I’m very pleased and happy with my results,” he told the Gazette.

“It’s really relieving and makes you feel that all the hard work has paid off. I’ll be going out with friends tonight to celebrate.”

Nicholas Miller, from Stone, picked up a B and two Cs in maths, physics and economics. He will now go to Portsmouth University to study mechanical engineering.

He said: “I got everything I needed and met my expectations. After I get my degree I plan to join the army as an officer.”

Katharine Honeyborne, of Wotton, earned three Bs and will go to Cardiff University to do human geography, said: “I’m quite surprised and very happy. There’s less pressure now.”
