POLICE are seeking witnesses after a 78-year-old woman died after she was hit by a car in Stonehouse.

It happened shortly before 2pm yesterday afternoon on the A419 Bristol Road, Stonehouse, at the junction with Downton Road.

The collision was between a blue Citroen C1 motorcar driven by a 31-year-old local woman and a 78 year old female pedestrian, also from Stonehouse.

The female pedestrian was treated by paramedics and air ambulance personnel but sadly died at the scene.

The road remains closed whilst officers from the Tri-Force Specialist Operations Collaboration conduct a detailed investigation of the scene.

The investigation team are requesting that any witnesses who have not yet been spoken to please get in touch by dialling 101 and quoting Incident No 212 of 18/08/2016.

They would particularly like to hear from anyone who may have 'on vehicle' CCTV of the collision or the moments immediately before / after the incident.
