A TETRAPLEGIC from Breadstone is preparing to take part in one of the most physically demanding events in the world for the second year running.

With the aid of a specially designed wheelchair, Rob Camm, 22, will test his mettle in a Tough Mudder obstacle course – designed to test physical and mental strength.

Rob was a passenger in a car that crashed in September, 2013, a week before he was due to begin studies at York University.

Since then, he started a course studying philosophy and politics at Bristol University and has just completed his second year.

Last year Rob successfully completed the Tough Mudder event in Cirencester and will attempt to finish the event, dubbed “probably the toughest event on the planet” by organisers, for a second time.

The event has been fitted into what has been a busy summer for Rob who has been working in the legal department of EDF Energy in Gloucester for three days a week.

Once again Rob will be joined by a team of friends to take part in the event, which is designed to encourage teamwork.

Speaking to the Gazette ahead of the weekend’s event, he said: “I’m really looking forward to this, it’s the kind of thing I always enjoyed doing previously and still enjoy now.

“I love the challenge and being part of a team to do it.”

Alongside the full Tough Mudder event, a “mini mudder” will also be held at Cirencester Park over the weekend (August 20-21).

The Fruit Shoot Mini Mudder is designed for children aged seven to 12 and will feature ten obstacles over the mile-long course - all designed to provide a wet and muddy experience.

The Tough Mudder event will also be held at Cirencester Park this weekend while a newly introduced event – the Tough Mudder Half – will be held on Sunday.
