A GRANNY from Cam will walk on the wings of a flying plane to raise funds for a specialised wheelchair for her disabled granddaughter.

Tracy Griffiths, 55, of Woodfields, will take on the wing walking challenge over Staverton in September.

The money she raises through sponsorship will go towards a collection for a wheelchair which will enable her nine-year-old granddaughter Bailey Griffiths, who has cerebral palsy, to stand.

This is not the first time Tracy has braved great heights to raise money for Bailey. Two years ago she took on a skydive to boost funds for another chair.

“Bailey needs the standing chair so I had to do something that would top the skydive,” Tracy, who works at J Broomhall Ltd butchers in Dursley, told the Gazette.

“I loved doing the skydive. It was something I always wanted to do and fundraising for Bailey gave me the opportunity.

“I’m very excited to do the wing walk. They go as wild as you wish, so I’ve spoken to the pilot and told them to do a loop the loop.”

Bailey’s parents, Nick (Tracy’s son) and Laura, who also live in Cam with Bailey and her brother Max, five, said they were keen to see Tracy take to the skies in September.

They said: “We’re looking forward to watching Tracy doing her wing walk next month. It's amazing what people have done to help raise money for Bailey.”

Bailey was born with quadriplegic cerebral palsy and profound deafness.

Over the years her parents have thrown themselves into raising money to ensure she has the best equipment and quality of life.

Recently, when attending a mobility roadshow, the family came across a new powered wheelchair that enabled the youngster to stand, costing more than £20,000.

Tracy, who Bailey calls 'crazy nanny', said: “She’s missing out on so many normal activities. And as she gets older, she’ll want to do more, like come out and do her own shopping.”

So far Tracy has managed to raise £200. If you want to donate some money towards the new wheelchair for Bailey, simply drop into Broomhalls in Parsonage Street or make a donation via the crowdfunding page at crowdfunding.justgiving.com/Baileys-Wheelz.

Laura and Nick also wanted to express their gratitude to Barry Walker, of Dursley, who donated £2,000 towards Bailey's new chair.
