RESULTS at Rednock School in Dursley have remained on a par with last year.

Last year, 59 per cent of students received at least five A*-C GCSE grades and, with some results still yet to be confirmed, between 57 and 59 per cent of this year’s cohort have hit the benchmark.

Ruth Allen was the top-performing student this year having received seven A*s, two As and a Distinction*.

Headteacher David Alexander praised the students for their results and said that their success would make the wider community stronger.

He said: “We are delighted with the performance of this cohort of students - their results have shown great progress.

“This means that those students who have got A* have done fabulously well but those who have got grade C or D have done equally well as they have over achieved in most cases.

“This is exactly what the school ethos aspires to be - all of the students succeeding irrespective of their ability - at Rednock every student does matter.

"The community is our key focus and ensuring that every child in our community gets what they need to succeed is so important.

“We are building the future; our community gets stronger with the superb achievements of these individual students.

“I would like to thank them, their parents and the staff for all of the hard work, support and belief to inspire these great results."

Two other students, Erin Linwood and Emily Troy, were awarded A* and A grades across the board.

Emily, from Dursley, said that she had done “better than expected” after receiving two A* and seven A grades.

“I’m really happy, I’ve done so much better than I expected,” she told the Gazette. “I have been so incredibly nervous over the last couple of days but it is great to have these results.

The 16-year-old will continue her studies at Rednock, starting at the school’s sixth form next month.
