IT IS upsetting to hear that tenants at Cambridge House sheltered housing scheme are unhappy with their current housing situation.

They are being given the strong impression that the unit’s facilities are being whittled down before demolition in 2019, as SDC has admitted that the cost of bringing it up to standard is ‘prohibitive’.

Unfortunately, the residents feel they are not being shown sufficient regard during this process and there is no attempt to find any solutions.

Perhaps stripping back facilities can save the council some money, but in doing so they also strip the soul from Cambridge House. Many residents remember years spent there with fondness and their wellbeing is important to many who will fight tooth and nail for them.

Pleas for adequate living arrangements from vulnerable members of society should not be ignored. SDC need to engage better with residents and ensure standards will be maintained and re-housing will occur in a diligent and stress-free manner.
