PROMPT and daring action by a young Downend dental surgeon prevented his father from sustaining serious burns on Tuesday when the car they were working on exploded into flames.

Mr Leighton H. Price and his father were working on a Jaguar Mark IX car at the rear of Mr. Price senior’s home.

The vehicle was in the garage and the father was in the inspection pit. They were fitting a petrol pump when suddenly there was an explosion and the car burst into flames.

Mr Leighton Price dragged his father up the pit steps jumped into the car and drove it away from the garage. He continued driving back and for in an effort to blow out the flames.

THERE is a genuine need for more shops at Severn Beach declared Mr W. M. Huntley at a local inquiry held at The Council Offices, Stokefield, Thornbury. He submitted that on the population figures of Severn Beach alone from 18-25 shops were needed compared to the ten or eleven in existence at present.

IN NINE, Downend Road, Kingswood a man and his wife are living in hate of something that they see every time they open a curtain.

This ‘thing’ has become so bad that the occupants have been forced out of their lounge.

For Mr and Mrs Wilfred Osmond the car park at Kingswood Shopping centre has made life at home like “living on a rubbish dump.”

Mrs Freda Osmond told a local valuation panel that the rubbish in the car park “is disgusting and unsightly.”

THE HEADMASTER of Hanham’s new comprehensive school assured the press conference this week that all basic subjects will be taught to every pupil at the new school up to O level or CSE standard.

“There have been some complaints that children are not being taught subjects like science, English, or Mathematics after fifth year,” said Mr Frederick Appleaon.
