TREES will be the centre of attention at the first-ever Vale Wassail, which will take place next month.

On Sunday, February 19, crowds will take part in the regional tradition for its first iteration at Vale Community Hospital in Dursley.

Participants will gather around the site’s fruit trees to say a toast for growth and an abundant harvest in the ancient ceremony which
celebrates the apple tree.

Evil spirits will be scared away whilst the event also banishes winter ahead of the spring blossom.

The event will begin with a procession around the site and a ceremony with the master and mistress before trees are wassailed and toasted and a procession and singing session is held.

Mulled cider or apple juice and cake will be available for a donation.
Musicians are welcome to bring instruments with popular songs being played in G.

Attendees are also asked to bring along a candle and a method of lighting it.

A community day will take place leading up to the wassail on Sunday, January 29 from 12-4pm. People are invited to lend a hand with activities at the hospital’s allotments and its grounds.
