A SPECIALIST care firm is to put forward proposals for a new 80-bed care home, complete with a cinema and gym, in Kingswood.

Representatives of HC-One, which runs Pennwood Lodge on the outskirts of the village, will hold a consultation to allow residents to view the proposals for a new home adjacent to the existing home.

The event will take place at Kingswood Village Hall from 4-7.30pm on Thursday.

The new care home would have four lounges and a dining room on each floor, a tea shop, resident’s convenience store, gym, kitchen for residents to use, private family dining room, resident’s laundry facilities (in addition to full commercial laundry), coffee lounge, bar, cinema/library and a hairdressers with nail bar.

The hairdressers, tea shop and a small cinema would be open to the community.

If planning permission was granted the firm, the third largest of its kind in the country, would seek to alter Penwood Lodge into 32 extra-care apartments for people with more acute needs.

A spokesman for the company said: "We are meeting with residents, their relatives and the staff at Pennwood Lodge Care Home ahead of the public exhibition, and have already met with key stakeholders such as Kingswood Parish Council.

"We very much look forward to meeting with the local community to discuss the plans in more detail on March 2.

“Myself and the project team will be available to answer any questions, and we will have comment cards for people to leave their feedback.

"If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch with our consultation team via phone 0203 6919 436 or email at consultation@hcone.co.uk."
