PERFECT spring sunshine accompanied another successful show by Slimbridge Gardening Club.
Colour filled Slimbridge Village Hall with an array of daffodils and tulips along with a host of other flowers. providing a wonderful scent which wafted through around the room.
Organisers said they felt this year’s event, held in the club’s 75th anniversary year, was one of the best in recent years and provided a real challenge to the judges.
Norma Griffiths was one of the day’s big winners, scooping three trophies – one for the best spring garden border, another for the most points in the tulip section as well as the coveted Tom Goatman Cup for being awarded the most points overall in the show.
For his entries in the daffodil section, Godfrey Fryer was awarded the cup for the most points in the category and also had the best exhibit in the daffodil and tulip section.
The Tewkesbury Cup for the most points in the vegetable category was awarded to Phil Sealey.
Carole Jeffes won first prize for her floral arrangement ‘Springtime’ and for ‘Shades of Yellow’.
Competition in the cookery categories was fierce with Sue Carter eventually awarded the trophy.
Jill Tait’s hand-knitted item was named as the best exhibit in the handicraft section.
Sibling rivalries came to the fore in the children’s competitions with the under-5s trophy awarded to Tara Jones, while in the five to eight years section, Hannah Lumb was awarded the Junior Cup and the Senior Cup was awarded to Freddie Turner who pipped his brother to the post by one point.
