DURSLEY Town Council has become only the second council in Gloucestershire to be given a 'Quality Gold' rating for its work.
The council is also the first in the district to be handed the accolade through the Local Council Award Scheme.
A panel visited the town earlier this month under the scheme to determine whether the council should receive the top level of grading.
Mayor of Dursley Cllr Neil Grecian welcomed the award.
"I was thrilled to be told that Dursley Town Council had received the gold award," he said.
"Councillors and staff have worked hard over a number of years on projects for the benefit of Dursley and to give good service to the community.
"It was excellent to have this acknowledged by the award."
