SCHOOLCHILDREN and the town mayor were amongst members of the community who took part in Care Home Open Day in Dursley.

Pupils from Dursley Primary Academy paid a visit to The Hollies on Friday and met with its residents.

A farming-themed day was arranged by the home’s staff who had also arranged for four vintage tractors to be displayed at the site for the day.

Diane Browning, activities co-ordinator at The Hollies, said that the open day was “a great opportunity” for residents to meet the community.

“It’s really important for all of us to make sure that we are involved with the community as much as possible and we do a lot to make sure that happens,” she told the Gazette.

“The open day is a great opportunity to invite members of the community in to see us.

“Our residents love having children here for various visits and events and it was lovely to see them chatting away with the pupils.”

The home’s young visitors were also given an opportunity to handle some chicks which were hatched at the home last week in preparation for the open day.

In the afternoon Dursley mayor Neil Grecian visited the home before its residents were treated to some musical entertainment.

Events were also held at Henlow Court care home for the open day.
