Tuesday, September 5 -  Development control meeting

You’ve probably read about the outcome of last week’s meeting which approved planning permission for two discount supermarkets in Stroud, however there’s still a little confusion about what’s happening with supermarkets in Stroud, so here’s a simple guide:

Bath Road Trading Estate site – Aldi received full planning permission to build a supermarket here.

They have three years in which to build the store and 120-space car park, although in all likelihood it will be completed and trading much sooner.

Daniels Industrial Estate – outline planning permission for an unspecified discount supermarket, drive through food and drink retail unit and up to 50 homes, some of which will be affordable housing.

The permission was given subject to the signing of a Section 106 agreement which requires the developer to make contributions that benefit the local community.

The next stage for this site is for the developer to come back to the council with more detailed plans.

Dudbridge – Full planning permission for a large supermarket had already been granted for the Avocet Industrial Estate in August 2015, but a couple of days before the planning meeting the developer submitted a revised application for a smaller Lidl discount store and 124 canal-side homes.

This application will be consulted on and determined in due course.

Monday, September 11 – Council newsletter

The council’s own newsletter, SDC News, will be delivered to every household in the district this week.

It’s an annual publication which provides residents with information on the services available to them from their council.

This issue covers progress on major regeneration projects such as the canal restoration and the Littlecombe development in Dursley.

It also contains coupons for a free exercise class at The Pulse, Dursley and a family swim or one-day gym pass for Stratford Park Leisure Centre alongside information on the health and wellbeing schemes we operate.

Hopefully you’ll find it interesting.

Thursday, September 14, 7pm - Environment committee meeting

Items on today’s agenda include a local plan review, the Stonehouse Neighbourhood Development Plan, an update on the council’s environment strategy and a report on the future of town centres within the district.
