STROUD police has reported many trees coming down across the district overnight as Storm Aileen hits the UK.

The Met Office issued a weather warning in Gloucestershire yesterday.

Aileen arrived last night with strong winds and gusts of up to 60mph.

Trees came down in many places across the district including Dr Newton's Way in Stroud, Hyde Lane near Chalford and The Quarry in Woodfield.

The storm is unrelated to the hurricanes hitting the USA and neighbouring islands in the Atlantic.

Cllr Tim Williams (Con, Bisley) tweeted a photo from outside his office which showed another tree that had partly come down.
