WOTTON is set to face a couple of road closures in the coming weeks, with £15,000 to be spent on vital repair work.

There will be a full road closure on Shepherds Leaze, near the British School, from October 26-27 for vital resurfacing work.

Elsewhere, from November 21-23 a section of Bradley Street not far from Wotton town centre will be closed for Severn Trent work.

It will be closed between the junctions with Dryleaze and Westfields.

Gloucestershire county councillor for Wotton, John Cordwell (Lib Dem), said that the conditions on Shepherds Leaze were so poor that grass was growing out of some of the potholes.

“It is a never-ending task to keep road surfaces in a reasonable state and to reduce the maintenance backlog which in Gloucestershire is around £90M.

“The condition of these parts of Shepherd Leaze is particularly poor with grass growing in some of the many potholes.

“Each year county councillors are allocated a budget to spend on highway work in their electoral divisions.

“I asked for Shepherd Leaze to be included and have made £15k available towards the work.”

Residents in the area are advised by Amey – which is carrying out the work in Shepherds Leaze - that access in these areas may be blocked entirely for vehicles during the period, but pedestrian access will continue.

“We hope you understand that we will not be able to guarantee access for vehicles in or out of our work area (solid red line on map attached) except in emergencies,” a spokesman said.

“If you normally drive into or out of this area during the hours when the closure will be in place, we ask you to please make alternative arrangements. “Please also avoid leaving parked vehicles on the road. “Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout.”
