EDUCATION services for adults in Gloucestershire has been praised by Ofsted following a recent inspection.

Adult Education in Gloucestershire (AEiG), which offers a wide range of learning and training opportunities from CV writing to cooking, English, maths and apprenticeships, received a “good” rating after the visit by inspectors on October 3.

In particular the service was praised for tailoring courses to meet the needs of local employers, as well as giving independence to adult learners with learning difficulties or disabilities.

Programmes are designed to meet the needs of adults throughout Gloucestershire, for example helping people get back into work or boost their self-confidence.

The inspection found the great majority of learners enjoy their classes and benefit from their course; most make good progress and gain new knowledge and practical skills. The number of learners achieving qualifications is now very high, and has been for the past three years.

Cllr Lynden Stowe, cabinet member for economy, skills and growth said: “Adult education is making a significant improvement to the quality of life for many people in Gloucestershire.

“Our programmes help increase independence by offering life skills such as cooking and numeracy to those who may have missed opportunities previously, as well as improving employment prospects for those who are out of work or looking to build their career.”

“To receive yet another ‘good’ rating is a testament to the enthusiasm and commitment of learners in Gloucestershire as well as the excellent standards of teaching.”
