A 21-YEAR-OLD Slimbridge man accused of having cocaine and cannabis with intent to supply is to avoid trial by accepting a police caution for a less serious offence, a judge was told yesterday.

Prosecutor Janine Wood told Gloucester Crown Court that the CPS will not proceed against Daniel Yeomans of Tynings Crescent if he accepts a caution for assisting an offender.

Judge Ian Lawrie QC accordingly adjourned the case until March 1 so that Yeomans can be cautioned and sign the necessary paperwork.

He told Yeomans: "Read the paperwork and recognise what you are doing. That will mean that this indictment against you will eventually come to an end. "

At an earlier hearing Yeomans had pleaded not guilty to possessing the drugs with intent to supply on May 24 last year.

He had been in the dock with Luke O'Neill, 28, of Fountain Crescent, Wotton-under-Edge, who admitted having both drugs with intent to supply.

He is now awaiting sentence and has been told jail is likely.

The court was told at the last hearing that O'Neill had made a statement which 'tends to exculpate Mr Yeomans'.
