IDEAS to improve a busy road junction in Cam are being considered in the light of new and planned housing developments nearby.
Among options which are being considered for the A4135/Box Road is the widening of the road and the relocation of the pedestrian crossing.
As part of a condition attached to the granting of outline planning permission for Millfield’s 450-home Box Road/Draycott development, the developers are obliged to improve the junction which will be one of its main access points.
An application has now been submitted to remove this condition as Gloucestershire County Council has committed to providing the work with funds from Taylor Wimpey’s The Halt development which has recently been completed.
A spokesman for council, said: “We want to improve access and road safety for everyone traveling in and around the new local developments in the area.
“Our draft plans include widening the road and moving the pedestrian crossing, but we will be asking the local community what they think before any final decisions are made.”
Taylor Wimpey has paid £28,491 to the council for upgrades to the junction and adjacent land has been provided by Millfields to facilitate improvements.
