A ‘HUMAN’ jawbone has been discovered on the banks of the River Severn near Fretherne, near Frampton-on-Severn, by a fossil hunter.
The find, complete with two teeth, was made at 3pm yesterday but was only reported this morning and, by the time officers arrived to where it was found at Hock Cliff, the bone had been washed away.
Photographs of the discovery were posted on Facebook by Darren Patrick earlier today.
A police spokesman said: “I can confirm that police were called early this morning by a member of the public reporting that he had found what he thought to be a human jawbone at Hock Cliff, Fretherne at 3pm yesterday Wednesday, February 21.
“The man sent in photographs and left the jawbone where he found it.
“Police planned to visit the scene with the member of the public this morning with the purpose of recovering the jawbone and arrange for its examination.
“Unfortunately the jawbone has since been swept away by the tide.”
