THE second reunion of Berkeley Power Station employees took place at the end of last month.

Organised after two decades since the inaugural one in 1998, the event attracted about 120 former employees and their families to the Hamfields Leisure club - formerly known as Berkeley Nuclear Sports and Social Club - on April 21.

The purpose of the evening was for old colleagues to meet up and reminisce, with people from across the employment ladder, all the way up to senior management, in attendance.

A spectacular cake was unveiled that had been designed to look like the power station, which was decommissioned in 1989 after 27 years of use.

Having ticketed the event and held a raffle to help finance the event, a fantastic £645 that remained was donated to Gloucestershire-based children’s charity Winston’s Wish.

Co-organiser John Scoble, 70, a former administrative manager at the power station, said that everyone contacted had been quite keen to attend the event, with some coming from as far away as France and the oldest attendee, coming from Warrington, celebrating her 100th birthday later this year.

He added that since the event had taken place, a number of attendees had been in contact to say how much they had enjoyed themselves and that it was hoped another reunion could take place in the future.
