A DURSLEY florist has been named as the best in the county.

Eve Squire, 24, of Daisy Belle Floral Design, said she was delighted to scoop the Best Florist in Gloucestershire title at this year’s Muddy Stiletto awards.

The Muddy Stilettos awards are entirely publicly voted, so to win is a particularly special achievement.

“I’m really chuffed,” said Eve.

“We were up against other florists in North Cotswolds, from much bigger towns, so it was quite a surprise to have won.

“You have to be nominated by a member of the public initially.

“I don’t know who put us forward, I understand it was a bride and groom who we’d done wedding flowers for, but I don’t know which particular couple it was.

“It’s lovely to think that one of our wedding couple’s suggested us.”

Eve opened her business in Parsonage Street just 18 months ago, but has been working with flowers ever since she left school.

And even while she was in sixth form, at Rednock School, she was taking evening classes in floristry.

From there, she became an apprentice florist in Nailsworth.

“And then when, 18 months ago, I saw that the previous business - Wild Wood Flowers - was up for sale, it seemed like too good an opportunity to miss,” she said.

“We changed the name, gave it a bit of a revamp and took it from there.”

After flowers, Eve places friendliness at the top of her business agenda.

“We like to get to know our customers, and have a bit of a chat, whether they’re buying a little pot plant, or planning a whole wedding.

“We tend to make real friends of the people who come in, and make sure not to treat our customers know as if they’re just on a conveyor belt.

“What I love about my job is that no two days are alike," she said.

“As I walk into work, I don’t know what the day will bring.

"Each day I create something different - I never make two things the same.

“And everyone you see and meet has a different story."

Over 20,000 people voted in the Muddy Stilettos’ Gloucestershire Awards, across 24 lifestyle categories.
