MUSICAL theatre lovers will be in for a treat in Dursley next month with a double-bill from one of the leading amateur dramatic societies in the South West.
As well as showcasing the talents of their junior members with the classic Andrew Lloyd Webber family musical Cats on July 5-7, the DODS will also present a one-off charity production of Rent from July 11-13 for the benefit of its local performance venue, the Chantry Centre.
Based on Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats by T.S. Eliot, Cats is the story of a gang of alley cats called the Jellicles as they prepare for their Jellicle Ball.
Shenanigans ensue as their leader is kidnapped by the villainous Macavity and they must hatch a plan to rescue him in time for the Jellicle Choice.
A light-hearted musical appropriate for all ages, this Junior production promises to be an evening of entertainment for children and adults alike.
Written by Jonathan Larson, Rent tells the story of a group of bohemians living in New York at the dawn of the 1990s as they struggle with their careers, love lives and the effects of the AIDS epidemic on their community.
A musical of the modern age, it deals with complex issues and adult themes and may not be appropriate for under-16s.
