Yate Outdoor Sports Complex (YOSC) has been selected to host an international event in October this year, officially opening the redeveloped track and field.

The first event that will take place at the new site will be the International Target Sprint Competition which is due to come to Yate on the 6/7 October later this year.

The site is currently undergoing a complete redevelopment, totalling a sum of £850,000, following Yate Town Council's acquisition of the track from South Gloucestershire Council earlier this month.

Part of the proposed refurbishment of the base will provide state of the art facilities for a large number of sports, but the proposed update for Target Sprint in particular is exciting.

YOSC will have a 400m track where athletes can run straight from the track to a stall for shooting, meaning that it will be one of the only places in the UK that can offer the facilities required to host the competition.

Tony Davis, Cllr of Yate Town, has stated how 'exciting' it is that the area will be the face of Target Sprint in the UK.

"This is going to be really exciting, we can now say that we will be providing a facility for national events." He said.

"It's brilliant for the area and everyone at Yate Town Council is absolutely delighted. We have worked so hard to get this done and now it is all paying off.

"Whilst it is important that we look to move the area forward and host events like these we are also making sure that the groups who currently use the track are looked after.

"Yate Athletics Club and other groups will always be thought about when we are looking to move the site forward. I just hope that the residents in the area will come to watch this international sport, and cheer along Team GB."

YOSC is expected to be fully operational again by early October, however whilst building work is being done at the site the facility is still training a full range of athletes.
