CHIPPING SODBURY SCHOOL'S headteacher has promised that improvements will continue to be made, despite the overall judgement from Ofsted.

The school received a 'requires improvement' from the inspection service, although the head, Katherine Turner, has revealed she is 'pleased' with the progress being made.

"I am delighted that the Ofsted team recognised the significant amount of work that we have been doing to raise standards for all students," she said.

"It has also been acknowledged that, at this point in time, it is too soon to be able to measure the impact of much of our school improvement work.

"The lead inspector did describe the judgements to be ‘on the cusp’ of good and I feel this is reflected in the report with many sections having more positive statements than negative."

Ofsted evaluates schools around the country against a set five criteria. Each of those then combines to give each school on overall mark.

One area the school did not perform well on was 'outcomes'. This refers to the academic achievement of the school, and is linked to the grades that are achieved each year.

"The school is obviously expecting new results over the coming weeks, so on Ofsted's next visit the judgement might have changed." Katherine continued.

"On the day, we were told by the inspectors that 'we wish that effort was a category'. That for me just showed that over time, the foundations that we have put into place will help us to get to where we want to be.

"We understand that improvements need to be made, but we believe that with our new senior team we are going to achieve our targets soon."

Katherine also revealed that she would be writing a letter for parents, breaking down the analysis from Ofsted. This is available on the website along with the report from the inspecting organisation.

Chipping Sodbury School will now have another visit from Ofsted within the next 12 months.
