TWO teachers from Chipping Sodbury School are running a summer sports camp for children.

Jonathan Bowden and Chris Whitfield, both Physical Education teachers, have decided to run the event again following the success of its debut last year.

The Hero Academy, is a camp that provides children aged from six to twelve with the opportunity to get involved in sport over the summer holidays.

A 'typical' day at the academy includes a variety of team sports games, as well as children practicing their strength, flexibility, logic and speed to complete their academy log books and experience.

Jon and Chris say the camp is also aimed at encouraging children to become 'co-operative, brave resilient, whilst also improving their self-worth'.

One year on from its first session and over 50 children are getting involved in the camp this time around, with the pairs combined 20 years of teaching and experience being a key reason for its success.

The camp last year received brilliant reviews from children and parents, with one saying "It is great to find a holiday club that is able to cater for all. My two boys are nine and twelve and really enjoyed all of the different activities on each day and are looking forward to going back.

"It helps that the Hero Academy is ran by enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff. I will definitely book again.”

Jon Bowden, one half of the team in charge, revealed the 'key components' of what the camp offers.

"The Hero Academy's philosophy is based on healthy living," he said.

"It is based on the importance of physical, mental and social wellbeing. We encourage children to enjoy exercise, challenge themselves, overcome obstacles and improve their ability to work as a team at the camp."

The Hero Academy will be running sessions over the summer on July 24/25 and August 28/29. You can find more information regarding the camp at theheroacademy.co.uk.
