THE HISTORY of South Gloucestershire’s high number of chapels dating right back to the 17th century is on show in Yate Heritage Centre’s new exhibition.

There were at least seven different chapels within a five mile radius of each other following the conclusion of 1945. However the contrast between the turn of the 19th century and 20th century is remarkable.

Most of the buildings at the turn of the of the Millennium have now become houses. This represents a change in generations, as over time the number of people attending services at these chapels would have decreased.

Three out of the five chapels featured are now no longer being used for their original means, with Westerleigh Tabernacle, Old Sodbury and Rangeworthy being houses.
