GREEN-fingered volunteers ensured Dursley looked at its very best last week, ahead of a visit from the RHS 'Heart of England' in Bloom judges.

The Dursley in Bloom team, keen to retain the town’s previous Gold award rating, have have been hard at work, greening and beautifying the town.

The group's spokesperson, Judi Gardner said: "The judges visited on Tuesday, July 17, to view the valiant efforts of the volunteers, proudly supported by our local businesses, to retain our Gold award.

"Our tour was a little different this year as we started at the wonderful allotments at the Vale Hospital and then continued on to Rednock School for a tour of the various energy saving and eco friendly features incorporated into the fabric of the building and grounds.

"We then moved on to the centre of town to view the newly painted mural opposite the library, the wildflower planting at May Lane by the children's reading group and finally the planters and hanging baskets in Parsonage Street.

"The judges couldn't leave without a quick trip to the Old Spot of course.

"We'll know the judges decision in September, fingers crossed until then."
