Chipping Sodbury football club are celebrating their win at the annual Sodbury Football tournament.

The event took place Saturday July 21st and featured 18 teams from around the local area such as Chipping Sodbury A and B team, Brimsham Green FC and St Nicks playing in the 7-a-side tournament.

There was a dramatic ending to the competition as Chipping Sodbury came out on top in a penalty shoot out against St Nicks B-Team in the final, who had not conceded a goal all tournament.

Upton St Leonards were the previous winner of the Sodbury 7s trophy, however now it goes to Chipping Sodbury for the second time in the six years that it has been running.

Neil Simons, manager of the Chipping Sodbury first team expressed his delight at winning the pre-season competition.

"The tournament is a well known, traditional fundraiser for the club," he said.

"We use it as a great work out and a fitness test but its always good to go in to win and it was great to bring the trophy home."

Neil also commented on the upcoming season, expecting a 'big year' for the club.

"We are feeling positive for the upcoming season," he continued.

"It has been really good to hold on to our squad who got to know each other last year, some had offers from elsewhere so to get them to stay and choose Sodbury as a place for them to develop is really exciting for us.”

Chipping Sodbury FC tweeted following the tournament saying: "Thanks to all the teams that took part In the Sodbury 7s today - as ever, a well ran tournament with some good football played and a great atmosphere." Before adding "it was obviously pleasing to see the first team take the title."
