STARGAZERS across the region are eagerly anticipating the arrival of the Perseid meteor shower, which will be at its best this weekend.
One of 2018's best astronomical events, it is expected to dazzle the night sky on Saturday and Sunday night, with as many as 100 shooting stars an hour at its peak.
The cosmic spectacle happens as the Earth ploughs through debris trailing behind the Swift-Tuttle comet.
And you don't need to be an astronomer to get a good view.
Experts give the simple recommendation of finding a nice dark spot outside where you can lie flat on your back, and looking up.
Cam and Dursley Astronomy Club members are making the most of the year's biggest and best display of shooting stars by holding their annual `shooting star party` this coming Saturday, on Stinchcombe Hill.
They will be gathering there from 9pm, and advise bringing a chair and a drink. They hope to have a few telescopes there as well, as Jupiter, Saturn and Mars will all be visible.
