FOR those of you living around the Yate and Chipping Sodbury area you are probably wondering what the loud banging was on Saturday night.

Over 1000 people were watching a fantastic firework display at the Ridings playing fields as part of the Sodbury 800 event.

The display was paid for by Yate-based company Cotswold Homes, and lasted for around 15 minutes.

Around £4,500 was spent on the display which was preceded by a Michael Jackson tribute show at the outdoor venue.

The display was a huge success, with one member of the public pleased that the weather had not had an effect on the event.

"It has been a really good day, there has been lots going on. It is a shame that the weather wasn't a bit better but as you can see it is nice to so many people coming back up for the firework display this evening," they said.

The Sodbury 800 festival took place over the weekend with different things happening at the Ridings and Chipping Sodbury High Street over the two days.
