A FLURRY of recent grants awarded to an over 50's IT group in Frampton Cotterell has raised hopes of soon bringing lessons in to people's homes.

Frampton Cotterell Over 50's IT Group, based at the Brockeridge Centre, has been awarded nearly #7,000 in three lucrative grants from South Gloucestershire Council, Quartet and Neighbour Hood Learning.

The money will go some way to fulfilling the group's aim of buying ten laptops and teaching students in the comfort of their own homes.

Frampton Cotterell Parish Councillor and group fundraiser George Filer said the grants were a huge boost for the group and its students.

"We are beginning to really take off," he said.

"The money will pay for more laptops and equipment to use in our classes.

"It is taking us a step closer to taking classes into people's rooms."

Cllr Filer said the group offered older people an easy opening into computing and a social scene.

"We have a good group of students attending our classes which are on almost everyday," he said.

"We teach people lots of computer skills from ordering your'e groceries online to contacted relatives abroad."

Cllr Filer added that the group was only possible due to the high number of volunteers.

Anyone interested in joining the group either as a volunteer or student should call the Brockeridge Centre on 01454 865569.
