RESIDENTS in Wotton-under-Edge have been reassured by police not to worry about mysterious lights in the sky.

The Gazette received several reports this week about the lights last Friday night.

People living in the town claimed to see circular, orange lights moving across the sky.

Peter Berwick, of Wotton, said: "I was watching television when I saw four orange lights in a trapeze formation.

"I went outside with my wife and thought they might be a reflection but they weren't and they were completely silent. Then I saw another three lights.

"Usually when they are planes or helicopters they flash and there are more of them, but these kept the same formation.

"I'd never seen anything like it before."

However, police from Dursley have said the sighting was nothing.

Sgt Colin Ford said: "We received no reports on Friday night about lights in the sky.

"It could well have been the police helicopter which is based at Filton and when it travels up to Gloucestershire it frequently passes over Wotton-under-Edge on its way.

"I do not think it was anything for people to worry about."
