FILMING for the BBC's new period drama has moved to a National Trust house near Wotton-under-Edge.

Actors and crew filming the adaptation of Thomas Hardy's Tess of the d'Urbervilles have been filming in Newark Park, in Ozleworth, this week.

The cast have been filming all over the South West and were in Owlpen Manor in Uley last week.

The BBC is using parts of Newark Park's Georgian house and also the grounds that have spectacular views over the Cotswolds.

The house in Newark Park was a former Tudor hunting lodge that was later converted into a fashionable home by 18th century architect James Wyatt.

Michael Claydon, who works for the National Trust as Newark Park's manager and also lives in the house, has been around while the BBC has been filming.

He said: "They are using my drawing room, the hallway and one of the bedrooms. I have had to clear out quite a lot of my things but they are using some items that are in the house already.

"I haven't had to move out of the house because it is very large but I just sort of get out of the way during the day.

"I am surrounded by a sea of white vans and there are lights and camera equipment everywhere. It has been very hectic and disruptive."

Mr Claydon said that the crew also have filmed in a small farm on the estate that they have dressed up to look like an 18th century farm.

The actors are on set everyday from 7am to 7pm and are ferried to Newark Park in costume, as the make-up and wardrobe facilities are based elsewhere.

The cast of the adaptation includes the Bond girl in the forthcoming 007 film, Quantum of Solace, Gemma Arterton, who plays Tess, and Ruth Jones, star of award-winning sitcom Gavin and Stacey.

The four-part adaptation of Tess of the d'Urbervilles will air on BBC1 in the autumn.
