THE BODY of an elderly man was recovered from the River Severn early this morning.
A canoeist spotted the body while out on the river near Arlingham on Tuesday evening and alerted the police.
Police arrived and searched the area, but were unable to see well enough to search during the night.
They resumed their search at 5am this morning with the help of Severn Area Rescue Association (SARA).
A spokeswoman for Gloucestershire police said: "Police searched a wide area of the River Severn during the morning. A body was found at 9.30am and removed from the water.
"The body is now with the coroner. We know it is the body of an elderly gentleman but the body has not been formally identified as yet."
