32 arrests after 18-month police operation

POLICE have arrested 32 people after a dedicated campaign against the handling of stolen goods and drug supply in the region.

For the last 18 months police in Bristol and South Gloucestershire have mounted an intelligence led operation aimed at disrupting and dismantling crime networks across the force involved in handling stolen goods and dealing drugs.

Operation Recoup culminated in a series of raids this week across Bristol and South Gloucestershire.

Following 32 arrests, 23 people have been charged with drugs, handling stolen goods and burglary offences.

Eight people have been given police bail pending further enquiries, while one person received a caution.

But police are warning those involved in crime that Avon and Somerset will continue to be relentless on those intent on making others lives a misery.

Superintendent Ian Wylie, head of operations for Bristol District, said: "This has been a concerted and intelligence led campaign against those involved in a significant amount of criminality.

"By using departments across the force we have been able to charge a large number of people with offences which would have had a considerable impact on many victims across the force area.

"The message to any criminal in Avon and Somerset is that we will pursue you and make every effort to bring you to justice.

"These arrests will make a difference to communities and make our cities, towns and villages safer places to live as a result."
