Don't cut school build

12:52pm Friday 25th January 2008

HERE we go again, cutbacks at Rednock School. The same thing happened 30 years ago when the school was last rebuilt. Is there no one at county level who can add up, look at and read a drawing, cost a project, etc, etc, read the details from the contractors submissions and award the contract with no strings attached? Having been a district councillor at Stroud, I have had some experience as to the way the system works and when you see how some of the contractors outline their quotations, it's enough to make a dog laugh - and this from very large companies. It is still not too late for a full appraisal as to what is going on. How can we have cost cutting only six weeks into the build? The time has come for a major change at county level and to elect people who know what they are doing at any level of government.

Just six months on from last summer's devastating floods, families are once again bracing themselves for more potential flooding. We share your fears for the safety of people's homes and their loved ones.

Give them an ice rink

12:38pm Wednesday 23rd January 2008

THE Gazette 'Comment' on Thursday, January 17, pointed out the lack of any form of 'things to do' for young people in Cam, Dursley and Uley. I say that it includes all age groups.

Shop the yobs

12:37pm Tuesday 22nd January 2008

AROUND midnight on Friday, January 10, in Wotton, I watched in horror as a group of five teenaged hooligans, clearly high as kites on drink or drugs, screaming and shouting, proceeded to kick a telephone box, with every intent of destroying it. They then jumped on and kicked in parked cars, howling with laughter as they did it. They then proceeded to pull down fencing by the former factory site before they went home through Court Orchard.

Careless and thoughtless

3:25pm Saturday 29th December 2007

I TRUST that the person who carelessly dropped a length of blue plastic string outside the Lighthouse in Dursley and caused an elderly gentleman to be injured in a heavy fall on Saturday, December 22 will reflect carefully on a spoilt Christmas for one family.

Hospice thanks

1:32pm Tuesday 25th December 2007

I would like to say big thank you to everyone who supported our Grand Christmas Raffle which raised £854 for Cotswold Care Hospice. This fantastic amount will contribute towards helping people in the county of Gloucestershire living with life-limiting illnesses.

Not green enough

12:00pm Tuesday 25th December 2007

You report that the County Council are still open to a range of waste strategies. Some have mentioned the possibility of a monster incinerator being built at Javelin Park near Stonehouse. This would be a mistake.

Many thanks

1:30pm Monday 24th December 2007

I am writing to say thank you to everyone from Gloucestershire who has supported the Meningitis Trust during 2007 - the start of our 21st anniversary year. It's only with the help of local communities that we are able to continue our vital work helping to rebuild lives shattered by meningitis.

Try for grant elsewhere

1:29pm Sunday 23rd December 2007

I cannot understand why John Fowles did not suggest the youth club applyfor a grant fromStroud District Council. As I understand its grants are available but need to be applied for by the end of October to be allocated for the following year.

No more lights

12:10pm Thursday 20th December 2007

I am writing in relation to the proposed junction improvement on the A38. I live in Berkeley, commute to Bristol each day and utilise the M5 at J14 on a regular basis at the weekend.
