ON a recent visit to East and West Sussex I found no potholes, just a few rough surface passages.
It seems to me that the County Council are wasting money on two fronts.
First there is a proliferation of unnecessary signs - for example SLIPPERY on perfectly smooth roads, e.g. on B4058 on the way up from Wotton; MUD on ROAD when that is normal on small country roads; or DAMAGED ROAD and a 'bumpy' sign on A419 running down to Chalford from Acton Down.
Second, over-supply of traffic signals. In some places there are half a dozen or more, several on expensive stand-alone high posts; why have three at Calcot crossroads on A46? In France one single traffic light is normally considered adequate.
