SOME years ago when Dursley Rugby Club was being re-formed the Gazette assisted with publicity. Since then the club has made considerable progress in establishing itself among the leading clubs in the County, so much so that a number of former members have gone on to achieve international recognition. None of this has been achieved without considerable effort, notably from former players who have stayed on to assist the development of the club in many ways.

Recently I have had the pleasure of seeing some of this at first-hand, watching a young grandson taking part on the Club's Sunday morning training and junior match sessions. I am told that the Club has something like 500 junior players, boys and girls, on their books, and catering for them needs a massive input from many members in a variety of roles.

Among these members are required to act as road traffic wardens at Stinchcombe to enable drivers to get into and out of the ground. Inside others are needed as parking wardens with so many cars arriving at the same time, to say nothing of the many others required to supervise the various training and playing groups covering all the playing areas.

In addition many mums assist in providing refreshments and other facilities needed to make everything work. In all a wonderful team effort deserving of congratulations and a big thank you.
