ONCE again, Rock St car park in Thornbury has at least a dozen caravans parked on it from the travelling community.

They remain for several days and then move off. South Gloucestershire Council tell us they do all they can, but they are actually doing very little. No one else can park in our car parks over time or with one tyre on a white line without a £60 fine. Why should they be treated differently?

There were overhead barriers at one time but these have been removed because vehicles removing recycling bins couldn't get under them. Why not put barriers back on all our local car parks with an access opening code usable only by official vehicles.

Better still, South Gloucestershire Council needs to provide official pitches for travellers and then they could be moved on quickly. Their representatives tell us that they have rights. So do the rest of us.
