I WOULD like to send huge and heartfelt thanks to all the wonderful people of Thornbury who have been so supportive after your report about our burglary and loss of the charity money.
From feeling devastated about the loss I am now overwhelmed by the kind comments and generous donations of many people and I am pleased to say that I am able to pass to the rotary club the full amount of sponsorship originally pledged plus more from the kindness of many individuals who read about the incident.
Although we do live in an age when it seems that dishonesty and lack of consideration for others is becoming more common it is reassuring that at times of difficulty a wonderful community such as we have in Thornbury can pull together to make good out of bad.
The Thornbury In Bloom team of swimmers for the rotary Swimarathon raised in excess of £1,350 and this will then be divided by rotary between Thornbury In Bloom and the club’s charities,The Jessie May Trust and the National Eye Research Centre.
So thank you once again to all those who originally sponsored the team and to all those individuals who have donated and supported us over the last week.
