ON the proposed development at Cleve Park, Thornbury Mr Tippetts expresses very well the views and concerns of many Thornbury residents.
Unfortunately, the recent planning approval for building on Park Farm Fields sets the precedent and demonstrates that local views are of no account in the planning process.
Two Lib Dem councillors and one other councillor opposed the application while the majority including even the local Thornbury Tory councillor voted for the scheme.
When Welbeck submit their proposals the South Glos planning department will simply roll over and say yes.
The local councillors, with notable exceptions, will then give the application their approval.
All concerned in the planning process should heed Mr Tippetts words:
"Countryside is fast disappearing. If you value it, preserve it".
So who speaks for Thornbury?
Sadly, just a few lone voices on the planning committee.
Mr A W Lavender
