ON BEHALF of the local Liberal Democrat Focus team, I would like to thank the residents of Wotton, North Nibley and Stinchcombe for their fantastic support in returning Lib Dem candidates to represent them as their district councillors.

We polled 3,171 votes, or 46 per cent of the total votes cast, a fantastic achievement and nearly twice that of the other three-candidate party.

In a very high turnout, nearly one in two of the ward electorate voted and my 792 vote majority (along with the highest number of votes cast for any candidate at the elections -1,622), clearly reflects your appreciation of what the local Liberal Democrats have done for our community over the last 30 years and what I have worked for and achieved since being elected in 2015.

One of my running mates, George Butcher, gained a worthy 804 votes to become your second Lib Dem councillor, whilst Adrian Walker-Smith just lost out joining us by less than one per cent of the total votes cast.

We would like to thank you for such a strong mandate to continue working on your behalf for the next four years at Stroud.

We will be joined in the coalition by Catherine Braun, the successful local Green Party candidate, to lead the district council and we look forward to working with her.
