THE EU referendum is now less than a month away and I will be campaigning relentlessly to ensure voters know exactly how positive the European Union has been for workers’ rights in the UK.

The EU’s free movement rules ensure we're able to holiday with ease all over the continent, completely visa-free. Even more importantly, the EU protects our fundamental right to take a paid holiday from work in the first place.

It is EU legislation that gives us maternity and paternity rights at work. It is EU laws that give us robust health and safety rules which go a long way in reducing workplace injuries and deaths.

EU laws go much further than the UK's original Equal Pay Act and enshrine the right to equal pay for equal work between men and women. It’s European legislation that prohibits workplace discrimination on grounds of age, sexual orientation or religion.

EU rules ensure part-time workers have the same conditions as those of full-time workers, and give rights to temporary agency workers.

The UK’s workers can feel safer knowing there is EU legislation safeguarding their basic rights, regardless of who’s in power in Westminster. That’s why it’s vital we vote to Remain in the EU on June 23.
